Wilma Sawyer Jackson

   Wilma Russell Sawyer Jackson, 103, formerly of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2022 in Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation, Richmond Hill, GA.

   Born in Pasquotank County on November 6, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Miles Edward and Linda Brite Russell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Sam Staples Sawyer, Sr. and Horace Jackson; a sister, Doris Jean Sawyer; and by a brother, Archie Russell. A homemaker, she was a member of Berea Baptist Church.

   Surviving is her daughter, Bonita Sawyer of Savannah, GA; a son, Sam S. Sawyer, Jr. (wife, Jean) of Greenville, NC; two granddaughters, Denise Bradley (husband, Bennett) and Beth Meekins (husband, Eddie); five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

   Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Old Hollywood Cemetery, 1001 S. Road Street, Elizabeth City, and will be conducted by the Rev. Jason Wise. Friends may visit with the family at the gravesite immediately following the services.

   Memorial contributions may be made to Berea Baptist Church, 2033 N. Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
