Wilma Smith Hogge

   Wilma Rae Smith Hogge, 83, of 4500 Gilbert’s Beach Road, Tyner, NC, died Thursday, March 17, 2022 in her home.

   Mrs. Hogge was born in Rowan County on July 18, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Willie Ray and Mary Marie Carter Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles N. “Boogie” Hogge; an infant daughter; and a sister, Helen Hall (Wilbert, deceased).

   Retired from the Materials Purchasing Department of Newport News Shipbuilding after 28 years of employment, she was a faithful member of Chowan Christian Fellowship, the L.O.V.E. Group, and had served as a volunteer with the Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry.

   Surviving are two daughters, Gwendolyn Morris (Mike) and Monica Pinkston-Brock (John, deceased) both of Newport News; two sons, David Pinkston of Tyner and Christopher Pinkston (Martha) of Petersburg, VA; two sisters, Evelyn Clodfelter (Ivan, deceased) of Lexington and Carol Shutt (Bill) of Edenton; and a brother, Donald Smith (Jane) of Peachtree City, GA. Also surviving are “Boogie’s” daughters, Rachael Ann Hogge of Richmond, VA and Lynn Watkins (Keith) of Yorktown, VA. Together Boogie and Wilma shared nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 27^th, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Thomas Gregory. After services, she will be cremated and placed in the columbarium with her husband at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 26^th, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
