Willie Bonnie Umphlett, Jr., 88, of Corapeake, NC, peacefully went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 5, 1938, Willie was the husband of 46 years to the late Bonnie Lee Balentine Umphlett and the son of Willie Bonnie Umphlett, Sr. and Essie Gypsey Jones Umphlett, both deceased.

Survivors include his children, Teresa Kay “Terry” Ely of Corapeake, NC, Eddie Umphlett and wife, Sherry of Chesapeake, VA, Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Umphlett of Suffolk, VA, and Lisa McCarthy and husband, Robert of Portsmouth, VA; stepchildren, Louise Secrest and husband, Warren of Knoxville, TN, Becky Guetzlaff and husband, John of Russellville, AR, and Robert Aaron Holley and wife, Kathy of West Virginia; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Cox of Suffolk, VA; and brother, Mack Umphlett of North Carolina.

In addition to his wife and parents, Willie was preceded in death by his stepson, Danny Holley.

Funeral services celebrating Willie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home Chapel, Gatesville, NC. Interment will follow at the Savages United Methodist Church Cemetery, 339 Willeyton Road, Gates, NC 27937.
