William Thomas Jernigan, Sr.

William Thomas Jernigan, Sr., 77, of Ahoskie, NC, passed away Friday, June 27, 2025, at the ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

William loved to fish with his son and often came home empty-handed because he shared what he caught with friends and family. He also loved going to the ball field and watching his grandchildren play ball. William was the owner and operator of W.T. Jernigan Trucking & Sons, and he worked alongside his son in the trucking and logging industry. He was an active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he will be affectionately remembered for welcoming and greeting people at the front door. William also formerly enjoyed membership in the Ahoskie Masonic Lodge #684.

William was born in Bertie County on May 20, 1948, and was the son of the late Garvis Julian and Wilma Jernigan. In addition to his parents, Hattie Jernigan and his aunt, Mary Sue Garris, were also influential in raising him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Ronnie and Julian; his sister, Brenda Faye Jernigan; and his son, Tim.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy Davis Jernigan; a daughter, Mary Ellen; a son, Thomas (wife Nicky); a stepson, Winson (wife Stacey); a brother, David (wife Brenda); a brother-in-law, Richard, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition, William is survived by Nancy’s four daughters, Sandra Northcott (husband Joe); Donna Adams (husband Anthony); Rhonda Davis (husband Tim); and Kristina Bracy, along with their families.

A memorial service will be held in Oak Grove Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation following the service.
