William Clyde “Billy” Elliott, 88, of Hertford, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 15, 2025, at ECU Health in Greenville, NC.
Mr. Elliott was born at his father’s home place on Chinquapin Road in Hertford on June 22, 1937, to the late William Freeland Elliott and Edna Mae Baker Elliott.
Surviving is his beloved and cherished wife of nearly 69 years, Joyce Sumner Elliott, and his four children, William Clyde Elliott, III (Darlene), Paige E. Eure (Burt), Donna E. Byrum (Earlie), and Lynn E. Woodell (Jimmy), all of Hertford. Also surviving is a sister, Patricia E. Cameron of Virginia Beach, VA. He had 12 grandchildren, Michael Gilmartin, Jason Warren, Neil Eure (LeAnn), Amber Reed (Robbie), Grayson Stevens, Matt Woodell (Amber), Jackson Woodell (Jessicah), Tabatha Baker (Chris), Wes Woodell, Ryan Woodell (Andrea), Earlie Byrum Jr. (Chasity), Collin Byrum (Jacquelyn); 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Billy was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a former member of Great Hope Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, Treasurer, Sunday School teacher and faithful member of the church choir for many years. He was a charter member of Bear Swamp Hunt Club, having served as its Treasurer for over 30 years. Also, he was Past President of the N.C. Simmental Association.
Rooted in the land, he faithfully tended the soil as the lifelong steward and owner of Willow Creek Farms. He found joy in sharing harvest from his garden and listening to the music of his rabbit dogs in the field. Above all, he loved being in the woods, surrounded by nature and all its beautiful blessings the Lord so generously provides.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 20, at 3:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by his son-in-law, Burt Eure, and family friend, Preston Felton. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family Friday, September 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home, and all other times at Amber and Robbie Reed’s home, 591 Great Hope Church Road, Hertford.
The family appreciates all the love and care received during Billy’s time at the ECU Health Cancer Center.
