Emblem

William Allen “Bill” Caldwell, III, 72, of Colerain, NC, gained his heavenly wings on Friday, May 24, 2024, from his home where he was surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Mr. Caldwell was born in Cabarrus County on May 17, 1952, and was the son of the late William Allen, Jr. and Mary Edna Knight Caldwell. Upon graduating from Concord High School in 1971, Bill enlisted in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1977. Following his military service, he was employed with Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he retired as a Boiler Plant Operator and Mechanic. A man of multiple talents, his knowledge spanned far into many areas and trades. An avid outdoorsman, he had a passion for hunting and fishing, and some days he did both. For many years he enjoyed membership in both Hales Lake Hunting and Oak Grove Hunting clubs. Among his other interests, he had a love of flowers and gardening.

Surviving is his wife of 25 years, Eathelda Mae Williams Caldwell; a daughter, Sherry Pippen (Ron); two sons, Mark Caldwell and Steven Caldwell; his former wife and mother of his children, Janice Jochens; two sisters, Cara Lenfestey and Mary Edna Buie; and a brother, Paul Caldwell. Also surviving are Mae’s two daughters, Jean Terry Brown and Mia Rene Kelly. Together Bill and Mae shared 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
