William Carroll "Billy" Byrum

William Carroll “Billy” Byrum, 82, of Sunbury, NC, passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 to go home to his Heavenly Father.

Billy was born on October 29, 1943 in Gates County, NC to his loving parents, Carroll Wilbur and Mecie Eure Byrum. His parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Linda Perkins; two sons, Robert Byrum and Richard Byrum; stepdaughter, Lisa Copeland and her husband, Randy; grandchildren, Cody Copeland and Jessica Copeland; and numerous special cousins and extended family. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his stepson, David Shawn Sparks.

Billy was born into a Christian home and was a lifelong member of Middle Swamp Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband who enjoyed spending time gardening and fishing, but nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his wife and family.

Billy retired in 2008 as a Production Controller from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 36 years of dedicated service. He was known in the community by his many friends for his joyful personality, his funny jokes, his helpful nature, and his positive outlook.

Funeral services celebrating Billy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at Middle Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Burt Pearce officiating. Interment will be private in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
