Wilbur Lee Lane, Sr.

   Wilbur Lee Lane, Sr., 82, of 5624 Whaleyville Blvd., Suffolk, VA, died Monday, February 21, 2022 in Sentara Obici Hospital.

   Mr. Lane was born in Chowan County on March 31, 1939 and was the son of the late Jesse M. and Elizabeth Driggs Lane. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Lane.

   A retired foreman and heavy equipment operator with the Virginia Department of Transportation, he was raised in the fellowship of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, was a member of the Cisco Hunt Club in Chowan County, and the Suffolk Moose Lodge #141. His membership in the Moose Lodge spanned for nearly 50 years and included him serving in every chair, as Governor three times, and currently as the Assistant Secretary of its Moose Legion #199.

   Surviving is his wife of nearly 64 years, Alice Mae Lassiter Lane; three sons, Wilbur Lane, Jr. of Suffolk, Kenny Lane (wife, Becky) of Aulander, and Roger Lane (wife, Mayme) of Windsor, VA; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

   Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, NC, and will be conducted by the Rev. Kip Vinson. The burial will follow in the Lassiter Family Cemetery.

   Moose Rites will be accorded on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m.
