Webster Sidney “Sid” Stickles, 97, of 408 Oak Ridge Drive, Edenton, NC, died Sunday, November 20, 2022 in his home.
Sid was born on September 23, 1925 in Newark, New Jersey, and was the son of the late Robert O. and Zella Stowe Stickles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Flor Stickles; his sister, Verna Jacobus; and by brothers, William, Melvin, and George Stickles.
A retired sales representative with American Bakery Company, since moving to Edenton he had become a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, was active in the Edward G. Bond Post #40 of The American Legion, and volunteered at the Chowan Hospital Gift Shop and with the Edenton-Chowan Food Pantry. An avid Edenton Steamers fan, he and his wife Betty were regulars at the ballgames and had hosted several of the players providing them a place to live and enjoy “family time” while in Edenton playing summer baseball. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Corps.
Surviving is his wife, Betty Beckwith Graves; his children, Susan Dee Jacoby (husband, Tom), Deborah Ann Landsperger, and Gregory Wayne Stickles (wife, Valerie), all of Hilton Head, SC; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Betty’s daughters and their families, Gina Wellman (husband, Ralph) and Vana Ward, both of Edenton, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A small, private, family memorial service is planned at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, December 3rd. Later that afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., friends are invited to visit with the family and further celebrate Sid’s life at a reception being held at the Edward G. Bond Post #40 American Legion Building, 1317 W. Queen Street, Edenton.
