Wade Henry Johnson, Jr.

Wade Henry Johnson, Jr., passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2026, 10 days shy of his 91st birthday. Born in Plymouth, NC to the late Dr. Wade H. Johnson and Virginia Peal Johnson, Wade resided in the area for most of his adult life.

Wade attended Oak Ridge Military Academy and graduated Plymouth High School. He served in the US Army and attended Mars Hill College on the GI Bill. It was during his time at Mars Hill College that he met the former Martha White of Asheville, NC. They married in 1958.

After residing in Asheville for a couple of years, he returned to Washington County with Martha. Wade worked for CSX for 37 years, making many friends along the way while maintaining friendships with childhood friends.

Wade is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter, Jennifer J. Salvatori (Robert); son, Wade H. Johnson, III; sister, Wilmet J. Garofalo; and niece, Lisa G. Graham (Morgan). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ralph F. Garofalo; niece, Gina Garofalo; and many friends. Wade will be remembered by his family for his quiet benevolence, love of people, the outdoors and animals.

Per Wade’s wishes, there will be no services.
