Thomas Gene McCready

   Thomas Gene McCready, 64, of 143 Wildwood Drive, Hertford, NC, died Tuesday, April 28, 2020 in his home.

   Mr. McCready was born in Portsmouth, VA on January 24, 1956, and was the son of the late Fontaine Lee "Tinnie" and Mildred Elizabeth Carter McCready. A light equipment operator, he retired from the City of Portsmouth.

   Surviving are his longtime companion, Virginia H. Hurst; a daughter, Ashley N. Hurst; a granddaughter, Nina R. Hurst, all of Hertford; a sister, Lillian Elizabeth McCready Smithson of Florida; a brother, Leonard Lee "Lennie" McCready of Chesapeake, VA; and a special friend, Robert Ertsgaard of Hertford.

   A memorial service will be held at a later date. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help defray medical and other related expenses.
