Shirley Chappelle Wood

   Shirley Marie Chappelle Wood, 66, of Hertford, NC, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mrs. Wood was born in Virginia Beach, VA on December 3, 1955, and was the daughter of the late Curtis William Chappelle, Sr. and Ethel Mae Riggs Chappelle. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, once she raised her children she later worked and retired as an office manager from Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Other enjoyments included being active in the community in various organizations and projects through the years.

   Surviving is her husband of nearly 50 years, William Arthur "Billy" Wood; a daughter, Crystal Espinoza (husband, Ruben) of Virginia Beach; two sons, Keith Wood of Virginia Beach and Billy Wood of Key Largo, FL; three sisters, Linda Sawyer and Jeanette Pallett, both of Hertford, and Sandy Leonhardt of Knotts Island; two brothers, Jimmy Chappelle of Hertford and Curtis Chappelle, Jr. of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Tucker, Kaitlynn, Cole, Tyler, and Raquel; and many other extended family members.

   A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
