Shirley Jean Jennings Temple

Shirley Jean Jennings Temple, 95, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Friday, July 25, 2025, in her home.

Mrs. Temple was born in Pasquotank County on September 3, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Chloe Davis Sanders Jennings Rye and reared by the late Louis and Louie Sanders. In addition to her mother and the Sanders, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, David Murray Rye, her husband of 73 years, Cecil Edward Temple, and by her beloved grandson, David.

A member of Berea Baptist Church, among her many enjoyments in life included her love of gardening.

Surviving is her daughter, Dr. Robin L. Temple (husband, Richard) of Elizabeth City.

The burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. No formal services will be held. Friends may join the family at Robin and Richard’s home, 217 Planters Run, Elizabeth City.
