Sharon Brabble Hughes

Sharon Brabble Hughes, 72, of Windsor, NC passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at ECU Beaufort Hospital, Washington, NC after a very long, courageous battle with cancer.

Sharon was born on October 11, 1952 in Chowan County, NC to the late Henry Brabble and Emma Bullock Brabble. In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Lynn Hughes; three brothers, James Alton Brabble, Sr., John William Brabble, and Henry Wilson Brabble; and three sisters, Esther Mae Timme, Emma “Louise” Peffers, and Bertha Stout.

Before retiring due to her illness, Sharon was employed by Triangle Chemical Company for many years. She was a member of Ross Baptist Church, Windsor, NC.

Surviving are her husband, Johnie W. Hughes of the home; her children, Denise Simmons (David) of Windsor, NC, Rena’ Barnes (Brent) of Ahoskie, NC, and Wayne Hughes (Lynne) of Windsor, NC; two sisters, Hope Williams (Richard) and Linda Fleetwood; grandchildren, David (Lindsay), Tristan, Caleb, Cassey, Gracie, Riley, Brenner, Smantha (Matt), Kimberly (Steven), Sara (PJ), Cory (Katie), and Cody (Kelly); eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Ross Baptist Church, Windsor, NC with Pastor Joshua Morris and Pastor Karl Head officiating. A committal service will follow in the church cemetery. Following the committal service, the family will greet friends with a reception in the church fellowship hall.
