A faithful member and deacon of Warwick Baptist Church, other areas of service included his being a founding member of the Gliden Unit 2 Volunteer Rescue Squad, the North Carolina National Guard, and working with area fire departments in both training and fighting forest fires.

His family will always remember Roger expressing his love for God, his children, and all his family. Surviving are his daughter, Desiree Spivey Blanchard (husband, Rube) of Hobbsville; his son, Roger Kelly Spivey (wife, Jennifer) of Washington, NC; and his sister, Loretta Spivey Wiggins (husband, Joseph) of Midlothian, VA. He was “Poppy” to five grandchildren, Melinda Erin Forward (Jason), Aaron Hunter Blanchard (Vanessa), and Jacob Thomas, Graham Dixon, and Layton Paul Spivey; and two great-grandchildren, Caroline Mae and Bryson Kelly Forward.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in Warwick Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Russell Blanchard. The burial will follow in the Spivey family plot at the church. Friends may visit with the family in the social hall immediately following the service, or all other times at the residence.
