Robert Wayne “Big Robert” Elliott, Sr., 76, of Hertford, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his residence on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

Born on May 3, 1949 in Perquimans County, NC, Robert was the son of Oliver Cecil Elliott, Sr. and Grizzly Marie White Elliott, both deceased. A hardworking and selfless man, he spent most of his life farming, up until his retirement. He then started a mowing business and continued to help out anyone in need, up until his final days. He was an avid rabbit and deer hunter who spent most of his spare time in the woods or on his boat. There wasn't a thing he wouldn't do to help someone out, even a stranger. He especially loved to spend time with friends and family, particularly his grandchildren, who he often referred to as “his eyeball”.

Survivors include his life-partner, Annie Roughton; son, Robert Wayne Elliott, Jr. and wife, Amber; daughter, Wendy Whitley and husband, Ryan; grandchildren, Christian, Isabella, Avery, and Hazel; sisters, Louise Copley, Katherine Lane, Ruth White, Carolyn White, Beverly Forbes, and Sandra Amidon; brother, Bobby Elliott; and many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sisters, Peggy Hamby, Marie Tillet, and Joyce Spafford; and brothers, Donald Elliott, Randy Elliott, Ronnie Elliott, and Oliver C. Elliott, Jr.

Funeral services celebrating Robert’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026 at the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home Chapel, Hertford, NC with Rev. James Spaugh officiating. The family will greet friends on Monday in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service.
