Polly Marie Barbour Miller, 87, of Washington, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 30, 2025.
Mrs. Miller was born in Chatham, Virginia on April 8, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Robert Thomas and Cordie Mae Rigney Barbour. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathleen Taylor, by brothers, Curtis, Irvin, and Reynard Barbour, and just four months ago by her husband of 69 years, Horace Norman Miller, Sr.
A homemaker and pastor’s wife, Polly was devoted and instrumental in her husband’s service to the churches where he was called to preach. She joined him in his ministry by serving as pianist, choir director, youth leader, and teacher wherever needed. Always looking to help others, she served by cooking, clothing, and caregiving to those in need. At the time of her death, Polly was a faithful member of Rosemary Church of Christ. In addition to her role as a partner in her husband’s ministry, she worked for more than 20 years as a lab technician in the dental/orthodontics field.
Other areas of interest included gardening where she was known for her beautiful flower beds and immaculate yard, her delicious home cooked meals, and constantly and always doting and loving on her grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Horace Norman Miller, Jr. (wife, Penny) of Washington, Gary Thomas Miller (wife, Lisa) of Bath, and Lori Miller Prescott (husband, Mack) of New Bern; seven grandchildren, Erica Henthorn (Luke), Mack Prescott (Samantha), Horace Caleb Miller (Ashley), Joshua Miller, Kelly Wilson (Jamie), Daniel Miller, and Sarah Sparks (Miles); seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended members of both the Barbour and Miller families.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7th, at 2:00 p.m. in Rosemary Church of Christ, 5116 Slatestone Road, Washington, NC, and will be conducted by Ministers Tim Stamper and David Mason. The burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
