Our loving angel on earth, our calm in the storm, Pauline Elizabeth Holcomb Griffin, peacefully joined Heaven’s angels on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.
Pauline was born in Greenville, Alabama on April 2, 1927 to Charles Edward Holcomb and Rosa Mae Jordan Holcomb. She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband of 43 years, Solomon David “S.D.” Griffin, Jr.
She is survived by her two devoted daughters, Suzanne Griffin Parker (Frank) and Karen Ann Griffin; her precious son, Joseph Paul Griffin; and four beloved grandchildren, Lin Parker, Kristi Griffin, Kati Griffin and Griff Parker (Abbey).
In addition to her husband and parents, Pauline was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Wayne Griffin and David Glenn Griffin; and three younger siblings, Boyd “Buck” Edward Holcomb, Margaret Holcomb Harrington and Robert Glenn Holcomb.
Pauline graduated from Pantego High School in 1945 and continued her education at Kings Business College in Raleigh, North Carolina. While still in Raleigh she worked for Curtis Candy Company until moving to Sanford, where she continued working as a secretary. She later became a court stenographer and legal secretary, which she fully enjoyed.
She deeply loved her church, Edenton Baptist, and volunteered there in multiple capacities over the years including Nursery Coordinator. After retiring, she also worked there as the assistant secretary.
Pauline was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend. The absence of her gentle presence will be felt enormously and eternally by her loved ones. Even though her family is heart-broken over her passing, knowing that she is in Heaven brings great comfort and peace.
Funeral services celebrating Pauline’s life will be held 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home Chapel, Edenton, NC with Rev. Howard Sutton officiating. Interment will be private at the Windley Cemetery, Plymouth, NC. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, NC is assisting the Griffin family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.millerfhc.com
