Norma Cartwright Turner, 78, of Belvidere, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 20, 2024, in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.
Mrs. Turner was born in Perquimans County on November 15, 1945, and was the daughter of the late William Alphonso, Sr. and Myrtle Joyce Kight Cartwright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jimmy Brown Turner just 12 days prior to her death; by her infant daughter, Cheryl Joyce Turner; and by a brother, William Cartwright, Jr. A retired seamstress, through the years she had been employed with the former Don Juan Manufacturing, Apricot Inc., and 17 South Garment Company. She was a member of Belvidere-Ryland Church of Christ and enjoyed flower gardening and making handmade crafts. In later years, she found joy in puzzling and loved to share her finished ones with others. The greatest joy in her life was the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving is her daughter, Shelia Turner Russell (Steven) of Belvidere; a sister, Louise Pitt of Hayes, VA; five brothers, Ray Cartwright of Belvidere, Jackie Cartwright of Hertford, Johnny Cartwright of Salem, OH, Kevin Cartwright of Belvidere, and James Cartwright of Hobbsville; three grandchildren, Alden Matthew Russell (Amberly), Madisyn Lillie Russell, and Caroline Elizabeth Russell, all of Belvidere; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Friends may join the family for a time of visitation on Tuesday from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. A private burial will follow in the family cemetery near the home.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to her outstanding caretakers at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation for their love and care over the years.
