Nelia "Teeny" Gray Lowe Lane, 80, passed away peacefully at her home in Greensboro, NC, on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Teeny attended and graduated from John A. Holmes High School in Edenton, NC. She went on to attend UNCG Women's College in Greensboro, NC, where she received her bachelor's degree and dedicated her career to teaching English, primarily at her former high school, until she retired in the late 1990s. She was beloved by many of her students and colleagues.
After retirement, Teeny became a member of Hertford United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing beautifully with their choir. In her free time, Teeny pursued her passion for gardening and became a master gardener. She was also an avid reader, enjoyed traveling abroad, and cherished quality time with her friends and family, which included multiple cats.
Teeny was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene Ray Lane; her parents, Deford Woodrow Lowe and Carrie Pearl "Polly" (Manning) Lowe; as well as her three older siblings, Larry Lowe, Kay Riddlebarger, and Richard "Dick" Lowe.
Surviving family members include her two daughters, Jennifer Amstutz of Greensboro, NC, and Laura Bostillo (Jon) of Elizabeth City, NC; two grandsons, Jason White, USAF, of Cheyenne, WY, and Jonah Bostillo of Elizabeth City, NC; stepson, Steve Lane of Greenville, NC; and step-grandson, Steven Lane of Pinetops, NC. Teeny is also survived by her two younger siblings, Ivy Mitchell (Tom) of Greensboro, NC, and Garry Lowe (Wendy) of Knoxville, TN.
A private graveside memorial service will be held at Beaver Hill Cemetery in Edenton, NC, on July 5, 2025, following the Lowe 75th Family Reunion.
A public celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2025 at the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home Chapel, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, NC 27932.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations and memorials be made to the American Liver Foundation, American Cancer Society, and your local SPCA.
The family extends special thanks to the Medi Home Health & Hospice staff and caregivers for their compassionate care and support.
