Nancy Elisabeth Voltz Sorensen

Nancy Elisabeth Voltz Sorensen was born on November 2, 1940 in Toledo, Ohio. Her parents were Nancy and Irwin Voltz. She had one older brother, Jon Voltz. Nancy was a bold adventurer and left Ohio to attend college at the University of Colorado Boulder. In addition to attaining her degree and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority membership, she learned to ski. She met her future husband Keith Lee Sorensen on the way to the slopes. They married on January 2, 1962 after a whirlwind three week courtship that led to a 63 year marriage.

Nancy worked as a teacher and a homemaker. She and Keith raised four children who were each born in different states. They embraced new experiences and moved many times. In 1996, Nancy and Keith made their final home in Edenton, NC where the community embraced them. They purchased the Coffield House and lovingly restored it. Nancy was a tireless volunteer in Edenton and was a member of the Cupola House Wednesday Weeders (she was a Master Gardener), Saint Paul’s Church and its Choir, Edenton Historical Preservation Commission, Edenton Tea Party 250th Celebration Committee, the Garden of Eden Club, the Edenton Tree Committee, The Cupola House Association, Edenton Women’s Club, and the Boys & Girls Club. She opened her home and garden for the Christmas Candlelight Tours and Easels in the Garden. In her spare time she kept a spectacular garden and decorated her porch for every holiday. Nancy was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. In 2025, she still skied in Bozeman, Montana and rode her horse Baska Rose. Nancy is survived by her loving husband Keith Sorensen, four children (Steven, Christina, Marian, and Matthew) and eight grandchildren. We will all miss her dearly.
