Nan Wyatt Knorr, 79, of Southern Pines, North Carolina, passed away at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst following a brief illness on May 26, 2026. Nan was a resident of Moore County for the last 48 years.
She was born on March 21, 1947, in Norfolk, Va., and was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Tayloe Wyatt and Jim Kiezel Wyatt Sr. Nan grew up in Gatesville, N.C., and took great pride in her Gates County and Eastern North Carolina roots. Throughout her life, she spent summers on the beaches of the Outer Banks and the Currituck Sound. She was preceded in death by her brother Jim Kiezel Wyatt, Jr., and infant sister, Jane LeCompte Wyatt.
A graduate of Gates County High School in 1965, Nan went on to attend Vardell Hall Prep School & Junior College before graduating from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in Wilson, N.C., with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1969.
Nan spent years as an elementary school teacher after college while living and working in Virginia Beach. After settling in Southern Pines to raise her family, she continued to pursue her passion for education through tutoring, substitute teaching, and supporting organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children and youth.
Nan is survived by two daughters, Natalie Knorr Best (Kevin) of Raleigh, N.C., Caroline Tayloe Knorr Scheffey (Nathan) of Boca Raton, Fla., & three grandchildren, Davis Robert Best, Sydney Elizabeth Best and Maxwell Robert Scheffey.

Nan's final resting place will be in the Wyatt family plot in the Gatesville Cemetery resting peacefully near her parents, brother and baby sister.
