Muriel Whitehurst Twine

   Muriel Whitehurst Twine, 92, 1024 Perry’s Bridge Road, Belvidere, NC, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2023 in her home where she was being cared for by family.

   Mrs. Twine was born in Gates County on November 19, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Bonnie and Margaret Howell Whitehurst. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Twine; sisters, Rachel Savage, Jakie Spake, and Barbara Allen. A homemaker, she was a member of Savage’s United Methodist Church, and for many years she attended Sandy Cross Baptist Church.

   Surviving is her daughter, Jill Marples (husband, Greg) of South Mills; two sons, Mark Twine and Jimmy Twine (wife, Sheila), both of Belvidere; and six grandchildren, Nicholas and Zachary Marples, and Cody, Zoey, McKenzie, and Austin Twine.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Ron Stuart. A private burial will follow in the Twine-Riddick Family Cemetery near the home. Friends may visit the family in the funeral home immediately following the service on Saturday, and other times at the residence.

   The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to close friends and neighbors, Phyllis and Claude Kirkland, for all the meals and many acts of kindness shown during their time of need.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Perpetual Care Fund of Savage’s Methodist Church, in care of Mallory Buck, 210 Mallory Buck Road, Gates, NC 27937.
