Michael Ernest Overton, Sr.

   Michael Ernest Overton, Sr., 73, of 504 Rockfish Street, Edenton, NC, passed away, Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at his home.

   Mr. Overton was born in Beaufort County of March 11, 1949, and was the son of the late Charlie Jay, Jr. and Janie Dell Hardy Overton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Christopher Gonzalez, and by a brother, Ted Bradford.

   A 1967 graduate of John A. Holmes High School, he then attended and graduated from Elon College where he had played football. For many years he was employed with the Division of Education with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission where he retired as the Eastern Region Supervisor of Education.

   Surviving is his son, Michael E. Overton, Jr. of Edenton; his daughter, Janie Elizabeth “Beth” Gonzalez of San Antonio, TX; three brothers, Charlie Jay Overton, III of Fuquay-Varina, Jimmie Rogers Overton and Robert Neal Overton, both of Raleigh; and three grandsons, Michael Taylor Overton, and Christopher and Ian Gonzalez.
