Merwin Edward "Merv" Bauerle

   Merwin Edward “Merv” Bauerle, 94, of 460 US 13 South, Eure, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in his home.

   Mr. Bauerle was born in Marshall County, Iowa on October 2, 1930, and was the son of the late Edward H. and Theresa “Grace” Delfs Bauerle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Pauline and Wilma.

   A graduate of Gladbrook High School in Iowa, he then attended college and received training in several business courses. A bookkeeper for 70 years, he was first employed with Home Furniture in Marshalltown, IA for 30 years and upon his move to Gates County worked with A.T. Byrum & Son in Ahoskie for 40 years. A member of Cool Spring Baptist Church and its choir, he had faithfully served as the church treasurer for 37 years. He was a Marine Corps veteran having served in the Korean War.

   Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Lawrence Bauerle; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and will be conducted by the Rev. Steve Shanks. A private burial will follow in the Story Family Cemetery near the home. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home the hour prior to the services on Saturday.
