Obituary

Maxine Pridgen Poulos passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation. She was born in November 1938 in Spring Hope, North Carolina, and was the beloved daughter of Randolph Pridgen and Anne Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Poulos, and brother, Randy Pridgen.

Maxine was a former hair stylist who found great joy in painting and gardening. She had a creative spirit and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

She is survived by her daughters, Melissa Orians (Douglas Orians) and Deborah Poulos; six cherished grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and brother, Michael Smith.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Seven Hundred Hall and Albemarle Hospice for the compassionate care they provided. They are also deeply grateful to the many family members and friends who visited Maxine throughout her illness. A special acknowledgement is given to her roommate, Irene, who formed a close bond with Maxine over the past year as they cared and supported one another.

In lieu of flowers, Maxine requested that donations be made to the SPCA or a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
