Mary Ann Beamon Eure

July 8, 1928 — January 18, 2024

Mary Ann Beamon Eure

Mary Ann Beamon Eure was born on the Savage Road near Corapeake, North Carolina. She spent her first 8 years in the Savage community where her father and grandfather ran the local store, post office, and railroad depot. Mary Ann moved to her beloved Gatesville when she was 8 years old. She died peacefully in her home January 18, 2024.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Eure, Jr., her parents, Essie and Vernon Beamon, and her brothers, H. V. “Bubba” Beamon, Jr. and Ray Gordon “Coochie” Beamon.  She is survived by her five children Paul Eure (Sharon) of Sneads Ferry, Kathy Eure and Sarah Selvey Artz, both of Durham, and Charles Eure and Barbara Wiant, both of Gatesville.  She leaves behind nine grandchildren whom she loved dearly - Dawn, Jennifer, Katie, Barbara, Anna (Shane), Jessica, Charlie (Annalise), Jonathan (Stephanie), and Carly. She also loved and cherished spending time with her 10 precious great-grandchildren.

A member of Gatesville United Methodist Church since 1936, Mary Ann was a faithful choir member, active in the United Methodist Women, taught Sunday school, played the piano, and was church treasurer for many years.  She was an active member of the Gates County Historical Society. Serving her church and her community was very important to her.

Mary Ann’s favorite activity was spending time with her children, grandchildren and all her “extra” children.  She was a mother figure for young people in the community, and they fondly called her Mama Mary, Miss Mary, and Mother Eure. For 27 years, she was involved with the Hertford County Senior Citizens where she enjoyed time sewing and socializing with fellow quilters. She treasured time with all her friends, especially her Bingo ladies. Mary Ann loved flower gardening and delighted in feeding and watching her birds.

A stay-at-home mom for many years, in 1969 she joined the Askew family at Gates County Farm Service as a secretary/bookkeeper, where she worked for 20 years and met and became life-long friends with many of Gates County’s farmers.

In accordance with her wishes a graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 23, at 1:00 p.m. in the Gatesville Cemetery, and will be conducted by her pastor, The Rev. Mark Cannon. Recognizing January weather conditions and possible physical limitations some may experience, the family understands that some may wish to forego the graveside rites and invites you to attend a Celebration of Life reception at Jubilant Fields, 715 Court Street in Gatesville. The family will be at the reception immediately following the service. Please dress warmly for this celebration. At all other times the family will be receiving friends at the family home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Gates County Historical Society, in care of Barbara Wiant, P. O. Box 134, Gatesville, NC  27938.

Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, is assisting the family with arrangements and online condolences may be made by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
