Martin Alfred Drees

   Martin Alfred "Marty" Drees, 76, of Hertford, NC, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 in his home.

   Mr. Drees was born in Alvin, TX, on July 17, 1945, and was the son of the late Ralph Joseph and Freida Elizabeth Boehm Drees. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Joe and John Drees.

   Retired as a Lieutenant Commander from the US Navy following 20 years of service, he later owned and operated Colonial Clock Repair. A member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Edenton, he was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and was active with the Kairos Prison Ministry.

   Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Nell Hodges Drees; a daughter, Amy Shriver (husband, Heath) of Taylorstown, PA; a son, Mike Drees (wife, Niki) of Fairmont, WV; two sisters, Shirley Showalter and Mary Epp, both of Yorktown, VA; two brothers, Frank Drees (wife, Lois) of Hertford and Robert Drees (wife Helene) of Yorktown; three grandchildren, Ashley Drees, and Morgan and Gaberiel Shriver; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   A memorial service will be held Tuesday, January 25, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anne Catholic Church, and will be conducted by Deacon Frank Jones. Inurnment with military honors will follow in the church memorial garden. Friends may visit with the family in the parish hall immediately following the graveside rites.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made either to Sacred Heart Southern Missions, 6050 Highway 161, Walls, MS 38686, or to Kairos Prison Ministry International, 100 DeBary Plantation Blvd, DeBary, FL 32713, designated for the NC Chapter.
