Marion Judy Hollowell Winslow Phthisic, 93, of Belvidere, NC entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation.
Judy was born in Chowan County on August 23, 1932 to Haywood Thomas (Tommy) Hollowell, Sr. and Helen Eason Hollowell, both deceased. She was a Salutatorian Graduate of Chowan High School. Judy married Jarvis Dorsey (Dick) Winslow, Sr in 1951 and together they raised their three children. She was first and foremost a wife, mother, homemaker and fill-in farmer when needed. She did not shy away from hard work and rose to the challenge of parenting alone when her husband of 20 years passed away in 1971. She started her work career with the Bank of Hobbsville, then moved to Peoples Bank and finally to Bank of America from which she retired. Judy later married McKay Phthisic, Sr., who passed in 2014. They enjoyed many years together and she was a loving caregiver to McKay as he suffered from Parkinson's disease.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Judy was preceded in death by her sisters, Peggy Hollowell and Jean Hollowell Leary (brother-in-law Tommy Leary), her brother, James C. Hollowell, Jr. and her son-in-law, Steve Powers.
Judy is survived by her loving children, Wanda Winslow Powers of McKinney, Texas, Jarvis Dorsey (Dickie) Winslow, Jr and wife, Harriet, and Timothy Scott Winslow and wife, Sonya, of Belvidere. She is also survived by 5 Grandchildren, Jeff Powers (wife Kelly) and Stephanie Powers Troyer (husband Tate) of Texas; Nichole Winslow Layden (husband Brandon); Adam Winslow (wife Ashley) all of Belvidere; Lindsay Winslow Nixon (husband Jonathan) of Hertford. 9 Great Grandchildren: Hannah Lawrence (husband Will); Brinkley, Allison and Emmy Troyer; Remy and Riley Powers, all of Texas. Savanna, Rylee and Kelsey Layden; Russell and Raelinn Winslow all of Belvidere. Judy had the pleasure of seeing the smile of her first Great Great Grandchild, Cody Lawrence of Texas.
She is also survived by her brother, Haywood T. Hollowell, Jr. (wife Sandra); and sister-in-law Faye Hollowell; along with several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Judy was blessed to have wonderful caregivers during her later years: Rita Monds, Robin Liles and the staff at ECHR. The family is thankful for the care she received.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 389 Swamp Rd, Hertford, NC 27944, where Judy worshipped the Lord in her later years and enjoyed the fellowship of so many wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026 at Miller & Van Essendelft Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, N.C. and will be officiated by Rev. Howard Sutton.
