Margie Miller Lassiter, 94, of Edenton, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
Mrs. Lassiter was born in Chowan County, NC on October 9, 1931 and was the oldest daughter of the late Jesse James Miller and Sadie Basnight Miller. Margie was the wife of 66 years to William Edward “Bill Ed” Lassiter. Before graduating from Edenton High School, she worked part-time as an operator for the North Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company. After graduating in 1950, she worked full-time until the company went to dial. Later, Margie was a volunteer in scouting for many years and served over nine years as Cub Scout Leader of Pack 164 in Edenton, NC. She was a charter member of the Edenton Cotton Mill Museum of History and donated several items to the museum. Growing up in the Mill Village, and very proud of it, Margie was a member of First Christian Church and was baptized by Rev. E.C. Alexander. She enjoyed being with family and friends, camping at Green Acres and line dancing. In 1978, Margie and her husband, Bill owned and Lassiter’s Gas Service for 21 years and both retired in 1991.
Survivors include her son, Shannon Ray Lassiter; granddaughter, Sarah McKenzie Himmel and husband, Austin; sister, Margaret Miller Habit; and special friend and caretaker, Arnette Forehand and husband, Carroll.
In addition to her husband and parents, Margie was preceded in death by her sister, Maxine Miller Craven.
A graveside service celebrating Margie’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Beaver Hill Cemetery with Ricky Browder officiating.
