Margaret Virginia Taylor Johnston, 93, of Sunbury, NC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at her residence.

Born on January 29, 1933, Margaret was the wife of the late Marvin Philip Hofler and the late Walter Johnston, and was the daughter of Edgar D. Taylor and Essie Lassiter Taylor, both deceased. Margaret was the most senior member of Damascus Christian Church where she faithfully served for many years. She was an avid gardener who loved tending to her flowers and vegetables. As her late daughter, Virginia, was younger, Margaret volunteered much of her time in the local school systems. She also volunteered at the local election polls and was a member of the local VFW in Gatesville.

Survivors include her son, Marvin Ray “Monkey” Hofler; daughter, Julia Kecskes and husband, Steve; four grandchildren, Kirby Sorey and husband, Alex, Jeffrey Kecskes, Amy Mason and husband, Brian, and Kristen Pope and husband, Tommy; and six great grandchildren, Avalon Sorey, Wyatt Sorey, Rhiannon Pope, Brooklyn Pope, Rio Kecskes, and Sonny Kecskes.

In addition to her two husbands and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her son, Philip Hofler; daughter, Virginia Lynn Hofler; and eight siblings.

Funeral services celebrating Margaret’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026 at Damascus Christian Church, Sunbury, NC, with Pastor Mark Wethington officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
