On April 2, 2026 at 1:30 am, the wonderful husband of Barbara Wilson of 40 years, Mack W. Wilson went to be with the Lord.
Mack retired from the City of Elizabeth City, Load Management Department in 2020, after 30 years of service. He held a N.C. State Electrical License, and absolutely loved his friends that worked with him; Ricky Albertson, Mike Lane, & Debra Howe. There are many more, Mack prayed for these friends everyday for 30 years.
Mack also played the Bass Guitar in church for over 50 years. He played at the Richardson Street Church Of God, Coastal Cathedral Church of God, New Day Church, New Calvary Baptist Church and CCA Church of God in Portsmouth, VA . He loved all his Pastors that prayed and looked out for him.
Pastor Mike Owens, Pastor Dale Forbes, Pastor Jon Powers, Pastor Davin Phillips, Pastor Genesis Marcum, and Pastor Bonzia Caison. There were many others that have passed on.
Mack had many friends that he grew to love for many years. I can promise you that he loved you and prayed daily for each one of you.
Mack was truly a Spectacular Man of God . He talked daily about going to be with the Lord. He loved his three children, Joshua Wilson, Ginger Wilson Altherr and Joshua William Swain (adopted from the family of God) and a special son-in-law David Yonik.
Mack has a granddaughter Alexis Olivia Altherr who was the light in his eyes . He could not wait to go see her and spend time with her. Mack was so happy and proud that Lexi began to study and play music. They began to play together and it was awesome. He would cry each time they played together because he was so proud of her.
Also Mack had love for David, Daniel, and Devin, the family never knew any day that Mack did not come home and begin to pray for our family at Church , at Work and at Home. He kept you all covered daily in prayer. Mack will be missed by Barbara’s brothers and sister (Larry, Jamie, Marcus, and Linda, and a brother-in-law Glenn Riggs & Frances).
He had a spectacular family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters, and cousins (in-laws also). Mack and his wife spent 40 years celebrating life and having fun, they laughed together, prayed together, cried together, depended on each other. They lost many wonderful family members, and can’t wait to see all of them in heaven someday. (Well Mack beat us to it). Mack absolutely loved every single person in our family, he prayed for his family members.
Mack has one sister Frances Riggs whom he dearly loved. Every Saturday for years, Mack would say “we got to go to my sister’s house to fix something that was broken". We were always rewarded with coconut or chocolate cake which was wonderful when you are still young enough to enjoy it. He talked about those days for years.
Mack had so very many cousins and he loved them all the same. He had one cousin who was more of a brother than a cousin (Pastor Allen Spruill), he’s a pastor today because of Mack.
Mack had a childhood friend (William Faircloth) that even in their 60’s they talked nightly and laughed over more stuff than you could ever imagine. Thank you William for all you did to make his life so wonderful, his friend, Linwood, would always take Mack out for breakfast. Thank you Tyrone, Dave and Jimmy, Mack will always see them as best friends ever. Justin and Stacy Dunn, they kept the cars fixed, tires pumped up and gas tank full, and let us pay on time just like your dad (Joe Dunn) did for us. You are all amazing.
Thank you to every man in every church. You know who you are. You were amazing men of God who loved Mack dearly.
Lastly I’ll just say that Mack loved his wife Barbara so very much. She prayed and told God that she would never marry again unless she came into a church and found a man down on his knees worshipping God. When Barbara was 23 years old, she found Mack, that is exactly the man she always wanted.
Mack was 25 when him and Barbara got married. She never knew him to say one mean word to me. He would just shake his head and say “I need to go pray”.
He made sure that I had a cup of coffee each morning since Barbara taught high school for 40 years and had a mess on her hands. She depended so much on Mack for his love and support.
Barbara’s heart is just broken now but she will carry on until she meet him again in heaven someday. Please know that all of you reading this were loved and prayed for daily. He wanted for all of you to be in heaven with him so please God, make that happen.
I can’t forget to give honor to my Lord and Savior , Jesus Christ . He gave us a life worth living and a beautiful legacy to remember.
Mack was a good and faithful husband, friend, brother, uncle, grandfather and #1 Bass Player.
Most of all, Mack Wilson was a servant of God who chose to live his life for the Glory of God.
