Lynette Trueblood Baker, age 51, of Belvidere, NC, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on April 28, 1975, in Elizabeth City, Lynette devoted her life to her faith, her family, and the students and staff of Perquimans County Schools. For more than 28 years, she faithfully served as an educator, mentor, and leader, leaving a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues throughout the community.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Lynette was a dedicated member of Up River Friends Church where she found joy in leading youth in numerous activities, as well as sharing her musical love and talents with many as a member of the church’s Praise Team. An active leader with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Lynette was recognized as a servant to others. Throughout her career, she ministered to others by organizing weekly FCA gatherings, coordinating “See You At The Pole,” and leading efforts each year to send students to FCA Leadership Camp. She also generously served her school community in numerous leadership roles, including the organization of many proms and graduations.
Lynette shared a beautiful love story with her high school sweetheart and devoted husband of over 28 years, Charles Baker.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Marvin Trueblood, and her loving dad, Grover M. Hollowell.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Charles Baker of the home; her mother, Elaine Combs Hollowell of Hertford, NC; her son, Carlton Baker and fiancée, Kaitlyn Votava, of Belvidere, NC; and her daughter, Carissa Lynn Baker of Boone, NC.
Also surviving are her sisters, Julie Meads and husband, Tony, of Portsmouth, VA and Kelly Cross and husband, Martin, of Edenton, NC; her parents-in-law, Julian and Connie Baker of Belvidere, NC; her sister-in-law, Nicole Barton and husband, Todd, of Raleigh, NC; and her brother-in-law, Chris Baker and wife, Tabatha, of Belvidere, NC.
She is also lovingly remembered by her special nieces and nephews, Emily Quigley and husband, Landon, Lucas and Maddox Barton, and Chase and Claire Baker; as well as a special aunt, Dianne Mize.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the Perquimans County High School staff, administration, and science department for their unwavering love and support. They also express sincere gratitude to Dr. Schaefer-Cutillo and staff at Virginia Oncology, Dr. Mills and the radiology team, and Dr. Liu for their compassionate care.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC.
A funeral service celebrating Lynette’s life will be held Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. in the gymnasium of Perquimans County High School, 305 Edenton Road Street, Hertford, NC. Burial will follow in Up River Cemetery, 132 Turnpike Road, Belvidere, NC.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Perquimans County Schools Education Foundation, with a designated focus on supporting future Fellowship of Christian Athletes events, P.O. Box 337, Hertford, NC 27944.
The family is accepting visitors at the home of Charles and Lynette.
