Louise Kearney Owens, 94, of Tyner, NC, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025, in her home where she was surrounded by her loved ones.
Mrs. Owens was born in Greene County, NC, on November 25, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Noah Franklin Kearney and Mildred Frances Grimes Kearney, who were also born in Greene County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Thurman Owens, formerly of Pitt County, NC, her two brothers, L.B. Kearney and the other who passed away before she was born; and by her son-in-law, Mike Tatem.
Surviving are her three children, a daughter: Frances Wagner and her husband Richard of Vero Beach, FL, two grandsons: Chris Wagner (Elisabeth) and Eric Wagner (Chrissy), four great-grandchildren: Jacob, Mason, Dylan and Jackson; a daughter, Carol “Cricket" Tatem of Tyner, three grandchildren: Corey, Conner, and Karlee Tatem, five step grandchildren: Megahn, Ella, Jensen, Kristie, and Nick; a son: Ray Owens and his wife Susie of Hampton, VA, a granddaughter: Amber Hatcher and her husband Brian, two great grandchildren: Braxton and Raelynn; a grandson: Joseph Owens and his wife Jennifer, two great-grandchildren: Marley, Elijah; a granddaughter, Ashleigh Owens, two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Roman; a cousin: Mary Grant Carraway and her husband Robert of Goldsboro, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
Louise spent most of her adult life in Newport News and York County, VA. She retired as a supervisor from Maida Development in Phoebus, VA after many years of employment. Other enjoyments included her love of gardening, cooking, puzzles, games on her phone and a weekly bunco night in her garage with her neighbors. Most of all she enjoyed helping others. A member of Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church, she was also active with the Widows Love Group and Tuesday Walkers Group.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 10th, at 11:00 a.m. in Ballard’s Bridge Church, 3025 Virginia Road, Tyner, by Pastor Josh Engen. Friends may join the family for a time of viewing and visitation in the church the hour prior to the services on Saturday and again for a time of fellowship in the Family Life Center immediately following the service.
A graveside service will be held Monday, May 12th, at 11:00 a.m. in Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA, by Pastor Josh Engen.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church.
