Lloyd Ray Morgan, 85, of 228 Winfall Boulevard, Hertford, NC, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026 in his home surrounded by his family.
Born on June 9, 1940, Lloyd was the son of the late Clifton Morgan and Hazel Morgan Gibbs. A lifelong resident of Perquimans County, he graduated from Perquimans County High School and spent his life faithfully serving his family, community, and local businesses.
Lloyd was the longtime owner and operator of Best Buy Meats in Winfall. Known throughout the community for his strong work ethic and generous spirit, Lloyd took great pride in serving others. He believed no one in his community should go hungry. His business was more than a livelihood—it was a place where friendships were formed and neighbors were served.
A man devoted to his community, Lloyd was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and had been deeply involved in civic service. He served as a founding board member of the Winfall Fire Department, was a former Mayor of Winfall, and was a member of the Perquimans Masonic Lodge. Through these roles, he helped shape and strengthen the community he loved so much.
Above all, Lloyd loved his family. They were truly his greatest joy and the center of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton Morgan and Hazel Morgan Gibbs; a son, C. Darryl Morgan; and brothers, Preston Morgan and Seth Mac Morgan.
Lloyd is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Gloria Stallings Morgan; two daughters, Lisa Symons (David Wright) and Deana Cooper (Brian Cooper), both of Hertford; four grandchildren, Austin Symons (Brandi), Landon Symons (Abby), Reed Midgett (Brianna), and Madison Midgett (Wesley); and four great-grandchildren, Lilli and Daysi Symons, and Fisher and Willow Midgett. He was also anticipating the arrival of a new great-grandson, Baby Finley.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home in Hertford with Howard Sutton officiating. A private graveside service will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery, Hertford, NC.
Friends are invited to visit with the family at the homeplace.
Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Lloyd will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, respected businessman, and faithful community leader whose kindness and generosity touched many lives.
