Lawrence Glynn Riddick

Lawrence Glynn Riddick, 82, of 1006 NC 32 South, died Thursday, September 25, 2025, in his home.

Mr. Riddick was born in Suffolk, VA on December 30, 1942, and was the son of the late Lonnie Nathan and Katherine Eason Riddick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Gaye Riddick Levy and her husband, Stuart.

A retired engineer with the Virginia Department of Transportation, he was employed there for 36 years. Mr. Riddick was raised on the family farm in Gates County and was proud that its land had received the “Century Farm of North Carolina” designation. Even as he continued to work at VDOT, he helped his brother farm and clear land in the Whaleyville area of Suffolk for many years and enjoyed that work and the time it allowed them to spend together. Being a good steward of the land, he knew conditions of the soil, drainage plans, and measured the rain by both inches received and gallons per acre. His faith involved service at Sandy Cross Baptist Church, including his serving on the Board of Deacons, as Director of Sunday School, in the Men’s Choir, and teaching the Adult Men’s Sunday School class. Community memberships included the boards of both the Gates County Medical Center and the Gates County Department of Social Services. Mr. Riddick was also proud to have served in the Virginia Army National Guard for six years.

Surviving is his wife of over 58 years, Peggy Carter Riddick; their son, Brian K. Riddick, his wife, Diana, and their daughters Carter Blair Riddick and Callie Brynn Riddick, all of Hobbsville. Also surviving is his twin brother, Clarence L. Riddick and his wife, Anita, of Suffolk.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Sandy Cross Baptist Church and will be conducted by Pastor Brett Hutchins and the Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor. A private burial will follow in the Town of Gatesville Cemetery. Friends are invited to speak with the family in the church immediately following the service or all other times at the residence.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sandy Cross Baptist Church, in care of Barbara Jones, 498 Acorn Hill Road, Sunbury, NC 27979, or to Camp Cale, 377 Camp Cale Road, Hertford, NC 27944.
