   Larry Gene Nobles, 72, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024 in his home where he was being cared for by family.

   Mr. Nobles was born in Craven County on September 15, 1951, and was the son of the late Vernon Ryan and Lula Mae Clark Nobles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Renee Nobles, his brothers, Edward Nobles (Anne Marie, deceased), William Clay Nobles, and Robert “Bobby” Nobles (Lucille, deceased), and by a grandson.

   A College Professor, he taught in the Automotive Program at Tidewater Community College. He loved working on cars, dirt track racing, riding motorcycles with his wife, and enjoyed helping others, especially with home improvement projects.

   Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Denyse Singleton Nobles; five children, Elbert Jolley of New Bern, Christina Weiss (Joe) of Elizabeth City, Larry Nobles, Jr. (Shashannon) of Mifflintown, PA, Mark Nobles of Anchorage, AK, and Sara Nobles (Key) of Savannah, GA; many foster children; 11 grandchildren, a great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   A time of visitation will be held Saturday, April 27, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, with the last few moments of the gathering being dedicated as a time for family and friends to publicly share memories of Larry’s life.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made either to Shriners Hospitals for Children, PO Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394, or to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131, or to the LiveStrong Foundation at Currituck YMCA, 130 Community Way, Barco, NC 27917.
