Larry V. Johnson, 83, of Elizabeth City, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family after a long battle with his health, on Tuesday, May 05, 2026.
Born in April of 1943, Larry was the husband of Linda Johnson and the son of Ralph and Ruth Johnson, both deceased.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; son, Art Cantrell and wife Melissa; granddaughter, Autumn; and daughter Sharon Dall. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Johnson.
Larry proudly served his country in the United States Navy, stationed at Norfolk Naval Air Station. Soon after that, he became a planner/estimator for the Navy. Larry was well known for his love and dedication to the Lord, his wonderful sense of humor, and his joy of creating things from wood to fiberglass, as well as his ability to build a second story onto their own house by himself. Larry would tell everyone that "he raised the roof!". He was an avid reader, especially of his Bible. When Larry was younger, he loved to join his dad in a round of golf. He also enjoyed gardening and loving on his many dogs and cats, especially the two cats that remained by his side until the moment Larry went to be with the Lord.
Funeral services for Larry will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Calvary Chapel Church, 1005 Possum Quarter Road, Elizabeth City, NC with Pastor John King officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service to celebrate Larry's homegoing. Following the celebration, a family burial service for Larry will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Norfolk, VA. Anyone who wishes to join the family at the cemetery is welcome to come.
