Kermit Lee Godfrey, Sr., 87, of 304 Folly Road, Sunbury, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026 at his home. Mr. Godfrey was born in Gates County on May 9, 1939, and was the son of the late Johnny Johnson Godfrey and Alice Gertrude Bunch Godfrey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Faye Riddick Godfrey and his son, K. Lee Godfrey, Jr.
Kermit worked as an accountant, supervisor, and warehouse manager with Electric Cooker. He was a member and deacon of Sandy Cross Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, water-skiing, and bird-watching, along with playing practical jokes on his grandchildren. Known for having a sweet-tooth, he loved chocolate - particularly Twix, Kit-Kat, and Hershey Nuggets.
Surviving are a daughter, Teresa Stallings and her husband, Sidney Earl of Sunbury; two sons, Kenneth Godfrey of Sunbury, and Kelly Godfrey and his wife, Helen of Sunbury; eight grandchildren, Eric Campbell and his wife, Heather, Jamie Godfrey, Nikki Wesley and her spouse, Jeremie; Matthew Stallings and his wife, Sarah; Kelsey Paulik and her husband, Brock; Bryan Stallings, Kinlee Godfrey, and Logan Stallings and his significant other, Alaina; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Riddick and his wife, Sue; a nephew, Bobby Riddick and his spouse, Erin and sons; 12 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many other extended family members.
A Graveside Service with military honors will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 3:00 pm in Sandy Cross Baptist Church Cemetery, 956 Sandy Cross Road, Hobbsville, and will be conducted by Pastor Mark Wethington and Pastor Brett Hutchins.
The family will be receiving friends at Kermit’s residence, 304 Folly Road, Sunbury, NC 27979.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project.
