July 31, 1945 — November 14, 2022

Kathrine Adams Burdick

A flight of angels arrived on the afternoon of November 14, 2022 to escort and sing Kathrine Burdick to Heaven. She was being lovingly cared for at home by her husband, The Rev. Henry C. Burdick, III.

Kathrine engaged in a long battle, including what sometimes seemed like hand-to-hand combat, with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) a savage and relentless illness.

Kathrine was the daughter of the late CDR (USN, Ret.) and Mrs. Alden W. Adams, Jr. She is survived by her siblings: Mortimer (Buzz) Adams and his wife Kim Lund, Christie Hausman and her husband Sheldon, Alden W. Adams, III and his wife Jill, Lucie Adams and her husband Craig Wilson. She was predeceased by her sister Edith (Rennie) Darnell.

She is also survived by a wonderful assortment of nieces and nephews whom she admired and adored. The feeling was mutual. Kathrine loved to travel and she and Hank often took various nieces and nephews on trips to Europe or the Caribbean.

A thesaurus crammed with a string of superlatives would be but a beginning in any attempt to capture or sum up who Kathrine was - her character, her life. Courage, compassion and class were constants. Her accomplishments and successes were manifold and many. She was no stranger to awards and recognition. Self-centeredness and self-promotion were anathema to her. She wore honors lightly. Kathrine shared her gifts and talents with generous abandon. She brought her best to every situation from preparing dinner to leading a human services agency. Demanding the best from herself, she drew out the best in others. It is not an overstatement to say that no unkind word ever passed her lips.

No life was ever lived with more integrity, more kindness or more love.

There will be a Gathering of family and friends on Tuesday, November 22nd, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, NC. (www.millerfhc.com)
