Katheryn Clem Carkeek

   Katheryn Clem Carkeek, 79, of Smokey Hollow Lane, Gates, NC, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023 in her home.

   Mrs. Carkeek was born in Lewis County, WV on December 20, 1943, and was the daughter of the late George Franklin Clem and Anna Maeleen Herron Zinn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Carkeek, and by a sister, Martha Coleman. A retired First Class Cook, she had been employed with Norfolk Naval Shipyard for many years.

   Surviving are her two daughters, Patricia Williford of Gates and Christina Marsh of Suffolk, VA; two sons, Daniel Fortney of Chesapeake, VA and James Fortney of Portsmouth, VA; 12 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

   A private service will be held by the family.
