June Chaulk Layden

   June Chaulk Layden, 78, of Belvidere, NC, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mrs. Layden was born in Perquimans County on December 15, 1944, and was the daughter of the late Stephen D. and Annie Belle Smith Chaulk. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence D. Layden, a sister, Eula Wood, and by a brother, Ronald Chaulk.

   Employed for many years with Lowe's Home Improvement in Elizabeth City, she later worked with the Perquimans County Recycling Center Hertford Site on Center Hill Highway. She attended Chappell Hill Baptist Church.

   Surviving is her sister, Mary Ange of Corapeake; her beloved canine companion, Roxie; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Pastor Buck Leary. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the service on Sunday. A private burial will be in Cedarwood Cemetery.
