Joyce Patrick Spruill

   Joyce Patrick Spruill, 94, a longtime resident of the Pea Ridge community of Roper, NC, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025, in Chowan River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Edenton.

   Mrs. Spruill was born in Washington County on April 17, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Raymond Edward and Willie Estelle Hassell Patrick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert Howell Spruill, sisters, Janice Patrick Stillman and Carolyn Patrick Frazier, and by a great-granddaughter, Madeline.

   A homemaker, she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. An active member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, through the years she had faithfully served as its treasurer, director of both GA’s and Vacation Bible School, as a Sunday school teacher, and sang in the choir.

   Surviving are her three daughters, Lynne Spruill Cardwell (husband, Garry) of Edenton, Susan Spruill Morris of Stuart, FL, and Robin Spruill Howell (husband, Mark) of Danbury; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Jason, Amanda, Eldon, Helmut, Zachary, Graham, Eli, and Cali; nine great-grandchildren, Alivia, Daegan, Dawson, Owen, Clara Joyce, Joanna, Ariana, Lincoln, and Sophie Joyce; five great-great-grandchildren, Holland, Sevryn, Swayzie, Lennon, and Zeppelin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   Funeral services will be held Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Oak Grove Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, the Rev. J. N. Worsley. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the church fellowship hall the hour prior to the service on Friday and all other times at Lynne and Garry’s home, 112 Barker Street, Edenton.

   Memorial contributions may be made either to Oak Grove Baptist Church, or to church of one’s choice in memory of Joyce Patrick Spruill.
