Joy Kirkman Boyd

   Joy Dee Kirkman Boyd, 64, of 134 Evans-Bass Road, Edenton, NC, and formerly a resident of Chesapeake, VA, died Thursday, August 10, 2023 in ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville.

   Mrs. Boyd was born in Beaufort County on May 7, 1959 and was the daughter of Lula Belle Midgette Kirkman of Edenton and the late Roy Lee “Red” Kirkman. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robbie Kirkman.

   For many years Joy worked in Daycare, keeping children for mothers who worked outside their homes. She had also worked with the City of Chesapeake, The Up Center, and the Barry Robinson Center, providing homes for foster children that needed a place to live and someone to care for and about them. Her life’s work and focus was children. A Christian, she was baptized and raised in the Church of Christ faith.

   In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 43 years, Garry Wayne Boyd; their children, Brent Rodman Boyd (wife, Jennifer) and Hillary Laine Boyd, both of Chesapeake; and her grandson, Anderson David “Andy” Boyd. Also surviving are two brothers, Keith Alan Kirkman (wife, Monica) of Edenton and Barry Lee Kirkman (wife, Pam) of Camden.

   Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and will be conducted by the Rev. Bob Young. The burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home the hour prior to services.
