Joseph Henry "Joe" Towe, Jr.

Joseph Henry “Joe” Towe, Jr., 91, of Hertford, NC, died Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Born on March 8, 1934, Joe was raised in Hertford, NC overlooking the Perquimans River. 

He was the son of the late Joseph Henry Towe, Sr and Mary Irene Pritchard Towe and big brother to his brother, Clifford Pritchard “Cliff” Towe of Hertford and sister, Suzanne Towe Haste (deceased, July 21, 2007). Joe attended Perquimans High School as an avid basketball and baseball athlete. He graduated from Virginia Episcopal School and then went onto graduate college from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Joe moved back to Hertford to open Towe Motor Company in Elizabeth City and then Hertford. In 1983, Joe moved with his family to Fripp Island, SC to pursue his dream of owning several resort boutiques and The Fripp Island Racquet Club. He returned to Hertford and opened Sturdy Beggar Antiques- his hobby and passion. He later married Diane Kay Appleby and settled in Winfall, NC. 

Among his many enjoyments he loved traveling to visit his kids and grandkids; his son, Joseph Henry “Joey” Towe, III (deceased, July 29, 2023), wife, Karolee and their daughter, Kali, of Williamsburg, VA; daughter, Weston Towe Miller and her two daughters, Jessica Miller and Katherine Wilson, of Hilton Head Island, SC; daughter, Llewellyn Towe and her two children, Tucker Fedorchak, wife, Rikki, Grace Fedorchak Matveyev, husband, Stan, of Naples, FL. Joe was so excited to meet his namesake and great-grandson, “Henry Fedorchak” born on October 6, 2025.

 A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, October 18, at 3:00 p.m. on the family plot in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery, 207 South Church St., Hertford. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.millerfhc.com.
