John Michael Mick

John Michael Mick, a beloved father, grandfather, husband, son, brother, and friend, passed away at his home in Edenton, NC on Friday, May 29, 2026.

Born on September 2, 1970, in Virginia, Michael was the son of the late John David Mick and the late Betty Jean Bryant Melton. John Michael Mick was a beloved father, grandfather, husband, son, brother, and friend.

In 1975, Michael moved with his father to Liberty, Texas, where his family grew to include eight siblings, lovingly known as the “Mick Kids,” after John married Brenda. Michael attended Liberty ISD. As a teenager, he returned to Virginia with his mother, and the family grew again, adding four more siblings for a total of twelve.

Michael later met and married the love of his life, Anavela Cumba. Together, they welcomed a daughter who became the center of his world and one of his greatest sources of pride and joy.

Michael was known for his adventurous spirit and fearless nature. He loved fishing and was a highly skilled ironworker. Heights never intimidated him; in fact, he often amazed coworkers and friends by performing tricks high atop iron structures simply for the thrill of it.

Above all else, Michael’s greatest love was his family. He treasured every moment spent with them and looked forward with excitement to the arrival of his grandson, Kayden Michael Mick.
