John Michael
Mick
May 29, 2026
John Michael Mick, a beloved father, grandfather, husband, son, brother, and friend, passed away at his home in Edenton, NC on Friday, May 29, 2026.
Born on September 2, 1970, in Virginia, Michael was the son of the late John David Mick and the late Betty Jean Bryant Melton. In 1975, Michael moved with his father to Liberty, Texas, where he attended Liberty ISD. As a teenager, he returned to Virginia, where he met and married the love of his life, Anavelo Cumba-Mick. Together they welcomed a daughter who became the center of his world and one of his greatest sources of pride and joy.
Michael was known for his adventurous spirit, strong work ethic, and fearless nature. He had a passion for fishing and was a highly skilled ironworker. Heights never intimidated him; in fact, he often amazed coworkers and friends by performing tricks high atop iron structures simply for the thrill of it. His courage and confidence were matched only by the kindness he showed to those around him.
Above all else, Michael's greatest love was his family. His generous heart, unwavering loyalty, and deep devotion to his mother, children and grandchildren defined who he was. He treasured every moment spent with them and looked forward with excitement to the arrival of his grandson, Kayden Michael Mick. He also shared a special bond with his cherished dogs, Melo and Bongos, whose companionship brought him comfort and happiness.
Michael leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, laughter, and unforgettable memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Michael is survived by wife, Anavelo Cumba-Mick; daughters, Izavella Mick and Samantha Thibodeaux; grandchildren, Kai Thibodeaux, Oakland Thibodeaux, Banner Thibodeaux and Denver Thibodeaux; grandson on the way, Kayden Michael Mick; pops, John Stanley White; brothers, Donald Mick (Kim), Roger Mick (Sonya), George Mick, Bobby Mick, Jamie Mick and John David Mick Jr.; sisters, Tammy Norcross and Angel Welch (Larry); Michael is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandfathers Curtis William Mick and Dolly Bryant; grandmothers Sadie Mae Mick and Mary Virginia Jewell.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that Michael's love, laughter, and spirit will remain with us forever. His memory will continue to shine through the lives of his family and friends, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Forever Loved. Forever Remembered. Forever Missed. ❤️
