John Gilbert Layton, Jr.

John Gilbert Layton, Jr., 70, of Windsor, NC, passed away January 6, 2026 at his home.

J.G. was born in Edenton, NC, on May 13, 1955, and was the son of the late John Gilbert Layton, Sr. and Vivian Belch Layton.

He was a mentor to his family, an outdoorsman, and a commercial fisherman. J.G. was truly at peace whenever he was on the water, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.

J.G. was preceded in death by his two sisters and brothers in law, Beth White (Thomas) and Connie Ambrose (Daryl).

J.G. is survived by his wife, Mary Francheska Layton; daughter, Gabrielle Layton Eicher (Jordan); son, Daniel Thomas Layton (Kelsey); four grandchildren, Elias John Layton, Archer Myles Eicher, Ivy Ruth Layton, and Simon Rhodes Eicher; and two sisters, Patricia Anderson and Juanita Nixon (Stanley).

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Merry Hill Baptist Church, 402 Old Merry Hill Rd, Merry Hill, NC 27957, with Pastor Charles Swanner officiating.

The family will be accepting visitors before the service at 10:00 am in the fellowship hall.
