Kerr
Apr 24, 1958 — Sep 10, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Stanley Kerr, a beloved husband, father, and friend, who left us on Thursday, September 10th, 2026, at the age of 68. John was a resident of Hertford, NC, and was born on Thursday, April 24th, 1958, in Springfield, Illinois.
John is survived by his cherished wife, Kathy Thompson Kerr, with whom he shared a rich tapestry of love and adventure. Their union brought forth a beloved daughter, Hayley Kerr, who was the light of his life. Together as a family, they built a home filled with laughter, love, and endless memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents; J.D. and Nancy Kerr, sister, Barbara Phillips, and brothers, David and Steven Kerr. The memory of their lives carried a special place in his heart, compelling him to cherish every moment with family and friends.
John dedicated his professional life to the field of aircrafts, working as an Aeronautical Engineer. He began his career with Northrop and furthered his passion with Cessna, where his love for airplanes and flight thrived. A licensed pilot, John found peace and adventure soaring above the clouds, chasing horizons.
A man of many interests, John enjoyed everything 'hands on.' His passion for working with his hands and problem-solving was evident, whether he was building or fixing, his genial spirit was always engaged. He delighted in riding bikes, camping, traveling, visiting National Parks, hiking, and sailing on the Pacific Ocean with Kathy and embracing the splendor of nature, always appreciating the tranquility it brought to his soul.
Beyond engineering and aviation, John's greatest joy was spending quality time with his daughter Hayley. Their countless adventures together, punctuated by laughter and love, were a testament to a devoted father-daughter relationship filled with warmth and endearing moments.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Homes & Crematory in Hertford, where family and friends are welcome to join in honoring John's life and legacy. His absence leaves a profound void in our hearts, yet his spirit will forever guide those he touched.
In celebrating his life, let's embrace the skies he so loved, remember the laughter he shared, and cherish the values he instilled in us. John Stanley Kerr will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
