Joel Franklin McLendon, II

   Joel Franklin “Joel Mac” McLendon, II, 57, of Elizabeth City, NC, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in his home.

   Mr. McLendon was born in Pasquotank County on October 2, 1965, and was the son of Mary Ellen Parker McLendon of Elizabeth City and the late Joel Franklin McLendon, Sr. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine N. Hill.

   Employed as a chef for many years, Joel deeply loved his family and staying connected to everyone. Among his many enjoyments in life included his love of traveling and learning other cultures and the time he had spent in Asheville where he had helped in the creation of several restaurants. A soccer fan, he loved to watch Major League Soccer and the European League and his favorite team was the Celtics. He adored animals and had a passion of being in nature.

   Surviving along with his mother is a brother, Michael McLendon; a sister, Lynne Klinger; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.

   A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Freedom Baptist Church, 2290 Peartree Road, Elizabeth City.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA of Northeastern NC, 102 Enterprise Drive, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
