Jo Ann Rogers Eley

Jo Ann Rogers Eley, 84, of Moyock, NC, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Currituck House in Moyock.

Mrs. Eley was born in Williamston, NC on May 21, 1941, to the late Frank Lester Rogers and Marjorie Jones Rogers. A 1959 graduate of Williamston High School, she furthered her education at East Carolina College where she graduated in 1963 with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. Her career in education started in Windsor, NC, continued to Hertford, NC, and to Moyock, NC. Upon retirement from teaching in 1998, she had taught for a total of thirty-three years. Mrs. Eley was a dedicated teacher, having touched the lives of many children through the years.

Mrs. Eley and her husband, Charles, and daughter, Charla, moved to Moyock in 1972. A member of Currituck SONrise Church, she also enjoyed membership in the Elizabeth City Shrinettes and the Currituck Ruritan Club for a number of years. Along with her husband, she co-owned Charles Eley Catering.

Mrs. Eley will be remembered for many things. She was a kind, thoughtful, and patient person. Mrs. Eley rarely raised her voice. She enjoyed sending cards to family and friends, letting them know she was thinking about them. She was also an excellent cook and took great pleasure in preparing home cooked meals for her family and friends. No one ever left her table hungry.

Surviving is her beloved husband of 58 years, W. Charles Eley. Also, she is survived by her beloved daughter, Charla Eley Connors, her beloved son-in-law, Brett Connors, and her beloved grandson, Chas Andrew Connors, all of Aydlett, NC. Mrs. Eley is survived by a niece, Elizabeth “Lib” Mobley Lange of Elizabeth City, NC, a nephew, Billy Mobley of Lilburn, GA, and many loving cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Janice Rogers Mobley, a brother, Frank Lester Rogers, Jr., and a niece, Debra Jo Mobley.

Mrs. Eley will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

Graveside memorial services will be held Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Moyock Memorial Cemetery, 230 Caratoke Hwy, Moyock, and will be conducted by the Reverend Jerry Cribb and the Reverend Myron Simmons. Friends may visit with the family at the gravesite immediately following the service, and all other times at the Eley residence.
